HiPER Laser Fusion lecture

2:00pm, 18 September 2009, Graveney School, London

John Parris and Professor Bob Bingham of the Rutherford Appleton laboratory presented a lecture on the HiPER laser fusion project and its significance for the future of energy production in the UK and beyond.

Graveney School hosted the lainch event for the Physics factory in London with seven schools from South-West London in attendance. 300 AS and A2 Physics students listened to a fascinating presentation about the future developments of the laser fusion project in Europe which looks set to be built in the UK. The students stayed around afterwards to quiz Professor Bob Bingham about the intricacies of nuclear fusion and the realism of turning to fusion as a major power source in the near future. The event was also the inaugural meeting of the Wandsworth Physics Teacher Network. This is a proposed group of local teachers who want to get together to promote their subject and enhance their teaching of physics.
